Samples at Sam's

So, I walk into Sam's and there are "eat this" booths all over the store. I should have know better to go in Sam's on a Saturday but I was in the neighborhood and we all know the appeal. My intent was to get a new bag of bribery, uh, candy for my students and pick up some produce. I don't know why the produce at Wal-mart sucks but it's so on point at Sam's - Go figure. Anyhoo, I picked up the most amazing grapes, the sweetest strawberries (which are so big they would make the employees at Church's Chicken go "hmm..."), and 8 bananas which I feel stole for the price. As I'm winding my way through prepared foods I notice a woman giving samples of hummus. O-M-G, I've been meaning to try this particular hummus FOR-EVAH! Folks, when I tell you it's ridiculous, I mean it. This stuff is the truth. The hummus came with Stacy's all natural pita chips - yum! PLEASE GO BUY WHAT YOU SEE IN THE PHOTO. You will not be dissappointed. Personally, I think the serving size is a bit munch because it's all so filling but I feel I can get one heck of a snack/meal for a minimal amount of calories.

By the way, my back is pretty much okay. There's minor pain when I move a certain way but I'm going to jump back on Insanity - week 2 tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Let's go shopping

I went to Sam's today to buy the fruit and veggies for my detox. Why is eating healthy so expensive? I swear it's a conspiracy to keep Americans chunky monkeys. :)

Here's what I'll enjoy for the first few days:
  • pineapple
  • grapes
  • mandarin oranges (cuties) it's almost sinful how candy-like these things are and at only 35 calories each, impossible to love.
  • blackberries
  • bananas
  • strawberries
I just noticed that I never mentioned why my blog is titled Dominican Insanity. I am not Dominican but my family (my 1st cousin and our moms) and I are headed to the Dominican in July. I haven't donned a swimsuit in years. I don't even own a swimsuit but plan on strutting my stuff with confidence when we hit the beach. Consider me the 30-something Stella who's trying to get her groove back.

I've included pictures of my food prep. I'm actually looking forward to this detox. I think it will be a yummy experience.

Why do it?

I'm totally and completely frustrated with my weight loss progress, rather lack thereof. I started using the Lose It! iPod application and for the month of January I lost 10 pounds. Woo hoo, raise the roof, right? Sure, I was ecstatic until my next weigh in 2.5 weeks later and I lost one whopping pound. One pound? What is this, water weight, muscle? Seriously, I didn't care. The simple fact is that I expected something more. A lot more. Why? I've been hitting the gym, hard 5 days a week. Additionally, I've remained under my recommended calorie intake. And I've gotta tell you, I'm okay with the muscle gain but I still need to get my body below the 200 pound mark.

All of my friends have been talking about this new informercial from called INSANITY. I watched it and thought, hey, I think I can do this. Yes, I've heard the vomit stories, the elite athletes only workout recommendation and still, I entered my credit card information undeterred. So now I wait for the arrival of the ultimate workout and look forward to putting my body through changes that I hope will reinvigorate my weight loss.

In the meantime, I'm going to cleanse my body doing the Fruit Flush Detox: http://www.wbaltv.com/health/10281092/detail.html.

Stay tuned as I post my numbers and eating plan day by day. The fruit detox begins Monday.
